Dual Standard

It's been a while since I last post. But now nearing GE13 of Malaysia, I felt the need to pen down a few of my views. I know there's probably no one reading this blog anymore also.

As most Malaysian have long sensed, in Malaysia, there are 2 different sets of 'law enforcement'.
Recently, through FB and alot of other media, this is no longer something we 'sensed' but have been a fact. Just today, I saw a video of what happened in Penang regarding the 'God' name. (As I'm not of a certain faith, I believe now that word is 'forbidden' to be used. Lolz.)
Clearly an unruly crowd which are in the act of violence. Yet, the police is within the compound and just fold their hand. Nothing was done. No arrest no nothing.
Yet, looking back to Bersih rallies. Peaceful crowds which truly show the unity of Malaysian people which we were so proud of before. But, they are mrt with violence from the law side. Truly dumbfounded.

Then, another video also saw yesterday which happened in Melaka. Unruly crowd, holding a certain politician coalition's flag using the pole to vent their anger and hitting the police. No actions taken. Took one of the flag away and the rest remains. No arrest was done on the spot. Not sure if there will be also or not. I mean, attacking a police officer.... I thought that's a very serious crime?
Yet, again looking back at the girl which step on our PM's poster. Hunted down and arrested by the police with handcuffs. Condemn by the cabinet members.

And it goes on and on. The above only 2 of it which I saw yesterday. There are more of then.

I've chat and talked to a lot of Malaysians living abroad. Trust me, we all love Malaysia.
Then there are people which told us that we are out of touch from what is happening in our country. But let me tell you, there are things which we learn of happening which people living in Malaysia is not aware of. As we areaway from home, even minor details happening are very dear to us.

It's Chinese New Year

Happy CNY to everyone who are still reading this dead blog.

CNY have always not been the same ever since........ I don't even recall when was it.

It was always the time of the year when we would have looked forward to. The time when we would get to play with fireworks. My uncle would help to purchase the loudest fireworks for us. When we would be able to still play it openly in our house compound. When we will be greeted every new year morning with the red "mess" of the fireworks on the ground. The childrens (me included) will then search within the mess to look for "un-pop" fireworks to keep and play it after we get back. One of the most famous fireworks during that time is the "tek chu". We will each get a Sarsi glass bottle and put the tek chu into it before lighting it up. When we are bored, we will then play with the tek chu in the drain. Lighting it up and releasing it into the drain just before it started to fly off. It will then "fly" in the water and "pop" the drain water out.

This will also be the time when we would get to gamble openly at our home as well. We would start off with the mild "sa ki pai" (direct translation will be 3 cards). This is the game which can be played by tons of ppl. I think the bet was for 50cents for us or $1 (back then, the Malaysian Dollar is still being used). When we ran out of coins, we would then fold the $1 into half and tell our bankers that we are betting only 50cents. Apart from the sa ki pai, we would also play "tan chap" (wait ten), "ban lak" (black jack), "hu he hau hua" (fish prawn horseshoecrab flower), "tua se" (big small), and etc. It was also during the time when God of Gambler is still being very famous and we will all try to imitate him eating the chocolates. I still remember I will sit beside my parents when they play mahjong and also poker. Oh, I just remembered that my dad will also bring me to the coffee shop of a friend of his to play rummy. Back then, I still do not know how to play it. It was till recently only I really know the rule of this game.

When I was much younger, it would also be the time when we would get to go to the cinema to watch the new year movies. Catching the midnight shows with my parents and my uncle. This is back to the time when there are still tons of cinemas around Penang. REX, ODEON, etc (I forgot the rest already).

Then, this is also the time when we would receive the ang pow from the elders.Normally every parents will tell their kids to remember who gave which ang pow so that they can know how much the other party gave you and how much they actually gave to them.

But nowadays, the atmosphere have been very much different. No more fireworks. The gambling sessions does not feel much fun ald. The cinemas have been long gone. The ang pows no longer looks so attractive already. Is it due to that we have outgrown the feeling or is it the atmosphere have been lost in the name of progress?

HAPPY CNY EVERYONE!!!! =D

After Sometime.....

It had been a hectic start of 2011 for me in this 1st month.

The things I've wanted to do on my work have been creeping up on me and need me to pay more attention to them already. Currently, with a clearer direction of what needs to be done and more of systems things to be completed. Tiring and hectic, but actually, I felt it is going onto another level of work scope.
Still, there are times when I feel like killing people.

Enough on my jobs already.

Recently, we just noticed that our Canon 1000D had fungus growing on the sensor. So, basically it is a death sentence for my DSLR already. The replacement would have cost around 1/2 of the new price of the product. So, will most probably be switching our Lumix for most of the photos for now.
Besides, AmK had been on a craving for lomography recently (thanks to his "sun-you" friend). I don't think he read my blog, but if you do, you know who you are. HAHAHA
So, next on the purchase list will be a LC-A+. Although a Holga would have been cheaper but she love the LC-A+ which she tried from her "sun-you". But I have to admit that I all the while thought that she will love lomo pics more than the clear cut DSLR shots. Especially those tinted pics which she would make with PS or other softwares from the shots.

Now, I'm actually typing anything that comes into my mind. So, this post will gonna be quite weird as there are no motif at all behind it.

2 more days and I will be back to Penang already. It will be back to the time when I sleep with a mattress in the living room again. The time to assure my parents that I am still alive and kicking. Back to indulging myself with the glorious foods of Penang. Time to go back and play mahjong/rummy/cards with my family and Ah Long (my uncle). Time to settle my arrangements for my ROM and also prepare for my wedding. Time to catch up on the happenings around my family as well. But this time, I'll be back to S'pore by the 4th day of CNY. It felt so fast to need to come back to this small little red dot.

What else to say? hmmmmm.....

Oh, have been drinking quite a lot of starbucks coffees lately. All cause of the new starbucks card. What is more weird is that I have grown to like pure vanilla drink from starbucks or coffee bean. Not sure why, but am now loving the nice fragrance of vanilla.

Then, I've also spent quite a lot on clothes from Nov last year. Although I quite like the new style, but the price is excruciatingly painful to my wallet. But actually I do hope I can still increase the collections of these clothes.

okla.... dunno what to write liao..... ciao......

Summer Holiday - 夏日的麼麼茶

Nowadays it seems like I am writing more about movies. This is another movie which I had loved to watch over and over again. Although this time, I'm watching this in mandarin instead of cantonese, I still feels that the core of the feel which I love about this movie still have not been lost. Maybe, partly, the voice of Ritchie, Ah Niu, Guang Liang and also Sammie still are using their own voice. But, cantonese movies are really still the best.
For this movie, the scenes are mostly filmed in Redang, Malaysia. The place which I had said I wanted to go ever since I'm in my Uni live till now. Nearly 14 years and I still have not set foot on that place. Haizzzz....  When can I go? The location in the movie are great. The cast, they have 3 of the great singers which I love (all the male singers I mentioned above). The songs are great. Basically, it is a simple movie of simple love with its ups and downs. i really recommend this movie to you all.

Maybe I used to lived near the beach and ocean. I've always love to go to the seaside especially when I'm really down and don't know what to do. It felt easy and can get me to felt more at ease. Sitting there just listening to sound of the waves can really ease up the tensions in a person. But till now, I have not ever been to a very nice beach before. Thinking to go to Redang or Tioman or Perhentian next year. The budget should be lower than going to Krabi/Phuket/Bali. Hehehehe.....

Fly Me to Polaris - 星愿

This is an old movie from 1999. One of the movie which I love very much. The main cast are Richie Ren and Cecilia Cheung (as can be seen from the poster). The reason I'm writing about this is because I had just re-watched it for the "Nth" times tonight (now is 2:49am) and it still moves my heart.

The story is about a blind and mute guy passed away and had been given a second chance back to earth. Once coming back, he tried to re-assert his feeling for the caring nurse which had been his soulmate. However, he could not reveal that it is him who had been given a second chance.

The story is about how things would fall out of our grasp if we push too hard to obtain it. How things goes the opposite ways the more we try our best to obtain it. Till the end, when we approach it in another way.
When we finally could differentiate between caring vs possessing.

Last time, it is very rare for me to be too emotional in these type of movies. Maybe... maybe age is catching up with me already. Could be the ups and downs I had been through in my life which enable me to have a deeper understanding in what the movie is trying to bring forward. Watery eyes had been quite common when watching these type of movies. Haizzz..... really old liao......

Inception

Initially, before I watched this film, I thought this would be those action movies which depends on it's special effects to sell it. I believed it to be of one which have no depths (layers... hahaha), hit and run (awe) movies.
However, after watching it, I am still dumbfounded on how the director pull this off while not being long winded.
The cast performance..... hmmmm..... truthfully, nothing to shout about. Maybe worth mentioning is Ken Watanabe. I've seen this guy the most also in the Canon commercials. Never thought he is such a great actor as well.

Okay, now back to the movie, hmmmm.... really quite hard to write about it without this being a spoiler post.
Basically, these group of people can go into people's dream and try to extract/manipulate other people's mind. As mentioned, I thought this movie would be all about visual effects. But I am damn wrong. The visual effects just are compliments to the great story this movie shows.

This I believe is one of the best shows in this year.

PS: Spoiler... dun read anymore if you dun want to know
One thing I really want to mention is that there is a big vacuum on the reason behind the whole Saito character. 1stly, there was no explanation on the reason this character chose to go into the dream world. Maybe a lot will argue that this decision is to make sure the whole project was successful but, the risk he took to get into it is just too big compare to the reasoning. 2ndly, the calmness he portray inside the dream after in near death condition, does not goes well with the initial reason to start this project. Lastly, I just don't get how they got into Cobb's last layer.....

Running - 2010

I think I've over done it this year.
Up till now, the races which I have registered and paid up have a total distance of 120km (excluding a Croc's 5km walk).

2XU Compression Run - 12km *{1:42:55}
F1 MacRitchie Run - 15km (trail run) *{1:57"70 [Actual 14km]}
SunDown Marathon - 42km *{06:57:46}[Official Timing]
Singapore Bay Run - 21km
Newton Run - 30km

The above is not yet inclusive of the yearly SCSM (Stand Chart) and Nike Run which I normally registered. This weekend will be the 1st run of the year. Dunno what will happen.

I've also just bought a few new things for running. I bought a nike shoe at a Nike outlet last year but then found out that it is not suitable for long run as there were very little cushion. Thus, I went to get another pair of Nike shoe. A grey/yellow Nike LunarGlide+. Really love this shoe (although have only ran in it once).

Then, bought a Nike+ iPod Sport Kit with my Nano. Have just got my hand on it yesterday. Not yet tried it. Hope to be able to try it later today.

Oh, I have a new Newton Racebelt and also a 2xu Compression Socks. Got them from the race pack. Then, will be getting a Camel Pack (backpack with water bladder) by end of this month from the F1 MacRitchie Run.

Don't know y I'm into running now. Hope this can last long for me. :)
